Dear Global Rasa Community,
The violent shootings in Atlanta last week are just the recent tip of the iceberg of hate, violence and racism against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) communities in the US, which have accelerated since the start of the pandemic. Between March 19, 2020 and February 28, 2021, Stop AAPI Hate reported 3,795 incidents against the AAPI communities, many recent ones targeting the elderly.
At Rasa, we condemn those acts of hate, violence and racism, and stand in solidarity with the victims and AAPI communities.
We wanted to share a few resources that we found particularly helpful to educate ourselves on the topic that we encourage you to check out:
- Overview of anti-Asian violence resources: A great place to start with a ton of informative articles and with suggestions for donations
- America's long history of scapegoating its Asian citizens: Detailed short historical overview
- On Anti-Asian Hate Crimes: Who Is Our Real Enemy?: Excellent article by Michelle Kim, activist and co-founder of Awaken
As a company, we're committed to building an inclusive community and workplace where everyone feels welcome. We won't tolerate any forms of discrimination and racism in our global community. We enforce our code of conduct and encourage all community members to speak up if they witness any such behaviour.
If you're working on any projects that work against anti-Asian hate, violence and racism, we'd love to hear from you and know how we can support you.
Let's all make sure to watch out for each other and support folks in need. Give us a shout if you need us.
